Puri, located along the eastern coast of Odisha, is an agriculturally significant district where paddy cultivation forms the backbone of rural livelihoods. The district possesses a rich heritage of traditional farming practices and indigenous seed diversity, offering strong potential for the promotion of natural farming.

District Challenge
The increasing dependence on chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and hybrid seed varieties has contributed to the gradual loss of indigenous seeds and traditional farming practices. This shift has affected agricultural biodiversity, soil health, and long-term farm sustainability. Raising awareness on natural farming and indigenous seed conservation is essential for restoring resilient and sustainable farming systems.
Our Approach
Prakriti has recently initiated its natural farming programme in Puri with a focus on farmer awareness, field demonstrations, and community outreach. The intervention emphasizes the importance of indigenous seed conservation, natural bio-input preparation, and sustainable farming practices. Through awareness campaigns and direct interaction with farmers, Prakriti aims to build a strong foundation for the gradual adoption of natural farming across the district.
Awareness, Field Demonstrations & Farmer Engagement
As part of its initial intervention in Puri, Prakriti is conducting awareness programmes, field demonstrations, and farmer interactions to introduce the principles of natural farming. The activities focus on indigenous seed conservation, natural bio-input preparation, and building awareness on sustainable agricultural practices, laying the foundation for future community-led natural farming initiatives.
