Baladev Bhoi, a 44-year-old farmer from Dhanrakhaman village in Karlamunda Block of Kalahandi, has emerged as an inspiring figure in natural farming. His journey began with a severe crisis in 2008, when excessive use of chemical fertilizers destroyed his soil fertility, causing complete crop loss. The financial distress and emotional burden were so overwhelming that he reached the verge of suicide. This turning point led him to realise the destructive impacts of chemical-intensive agriculture.

With timely technical support and handholding from Prakriti NGO, Baladev adopted natural farming practices and gradually restored the productivity of his land using Jeevamrut, Beejamrut, mulching, indigenous seeds, and botanical extracts. Recognising his commitment, Prakriti helped him establish a Farmer Training School, where he now trains farmers in natural farming and soil health management. Prakriti also supported him in setting up a bio-fertilizer and bio-pesticide processing unit, enabling him to produce and supply organic inputs locally.

For his contributions, Baladev has received numerous awards from various organisations and the Government, recognising his leadership in sustainable agriculture.
Today, Baladev stands as a respected organic expert, trainer, and community leader within Prakriti—truly a farmer who rose from crisis to become a catalyst of change for his entire region.
