Prakriti is a registered non-governmental organization under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 (Act XXI of 1860), committed to the holistic development of rural communities. It was founded with the vision of addressing the real needs of rural people while preserving and revitalizing traditional practices, culture, and indigenous knowledge systems. Rooted in the belief that true development lies in balancing nature with progress, Prakriti works towards reconnecting communities with their cultural heritage while introducing meaningful and practical modern innovations. In many rural areas, the loss of traditional wisdom, declining soil health, and limited livelihood opportunities have created serious challenges for sustainable growth. Prakriti was established to bridge this gap. The organization focuses on empowering communities by promoting self-reliance, strengthening livelihoods, and ensuring nature-based development. A key area of intervention is agriculture, where Prakriti promotes farming through traditional practices enriched with modern technology— creating systems that are sustainable, low-cost, and climate-resilient. Women’s empowerment is at the heart of Prakriti’s work. The organization actively supports rural women by enhancing their access to livelihood opportunities, skill development, and entrepreneurship. Through training, capacity building, and collective initiatives, women are encouraged to become financially independent, confident decision-makers, and leaders within their communities. Prakriti also focuses on the development of youth by providing platforms for skill-building, innovation, and leadership. At the same time, it supports artisans and traditional livelihoods by reviving indigenous crafts and connecting them with sustainable market opportunities. Through a grassroots and participatory approach, Prakriti works closely with communities to solve reallife challenges using ancient knowledge with a modern touch—ensuring development that is inclusive, practical, and long-lasting.
